2026 Kenya intro

The Department of Fine Art and Design at Kenyatta University is pleased to contribute this collection of artworks to EVC’s 4th edition of thematic exhibitions at the Creative Arts and Culture International Research Conference. Anchored in the theme SANKOFAISM: Unearthing, Unlearning/Learning, and Uplifting, and situated within the 2026 exhibition theme, The World in Polycrises: Art Driving Change,” these works engage the layered crises shaping contemporary existence. In a world marked by climate emergency, ecological degradation, displacement, fractured identities, and moral uncertainty, the exhibition provides a platform through which artists can critically interpret the present while envisioning pathways toward restoration, consciousness, and transformation.

The artworks presented by Kenyatta University explore the fragility and resilience of both nature and humanity. Through works such as Kigeugeu II, Forgive Us Our Trespasses, Displacement, and Nature’s Watchful Eye, the artists examine adaptation, ecological loss, environmental responsibility, and the enduring wisdom of ancestral consciousness. These pieces invite viewers to confront the consequences of human action while also recognising the urgency of healing our relationships with the land, with each other, and with ourselves. In this way, the collection reflects the spirit of Sankofaism by calling for remembrance, critical reflection, and the uplifting of creative voices that speak to the crises and possibilities of our age.
