This artwork of bees describes that in a world facing climate change and conflict, all living things depend on one another and are connected in a changing world. Bees depend on flowers, seasons, and healthy environments to survive, just as we humans depend on nature and each other. As climate change and conflict threaten balance, the bees represent teamwork, care, and resilience. Even though they are small, they work together to build their hive, protect their home and create new life. The artwork reminds us that by cooperating and respecting nature, we can face environmental challenges and grow hope even in difficult times.
Atieno Sachy is a multidisciplinary artist from Nairobi, Kenya. Her artistic practice has evolved from creating intricate metal sculptures to developing immersive, large-scale fabric installations. This transition was influenced by her participation in an art fellowship facilitated by Goethe-Institut, Nairobi, which expanded her conceptual and material approach. Through her recent body of work, Fabric of Resilience, Atieno explores themes of labor, identity, environment, and representation within the Kenyan context. Using fabric as both material and metaphor, she examines the visibility and value of women’s contributions in society. Her practice merges traditional artistry with contemporary techniques, creating layered works that challenge societal norms and provoke critical reflection. By highlighting women’s narratives, Atieno invites viewers to consider how identity and culture intersect and how representation shapes collective and social structures in Kenya.
