2026 Kenya KAD Santana Sino Displacement

Mix Media (Image transfer and acrylic on unstreched canvas), 46 x 56.5 cm

In this mixed-media unstretched painting, it reflects on climate-induced displacement and the fragile state of belonging. Three faceless figures emerge in the foreground, their darkened, undefined features suggesting erasure and the quiet loss of identity. Behind them, rows of temporary tents stretch across a flooded landscape, set against distant green hills—an uneasy contrast between memory and forced relocation.

The waterlogged ground becomes both physical and symbolic terrain, representing instability and rupture. Through muted tones and simplified forms, capturing the emotional weight of migration, where individuals stand suspended between a submerged past and an unfamiliar, unrooted future.
