Exploring Visual Cultures: Technology, Training and Governance in a Changing World
The Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) will host TUK Research Week 2026, culminating in the 5th International Conference, from 16–20 November 2026 in Nairobi. Held under the theme “Building Integrated Ecosystems Beyond 2030: The Role of Technology, Training and Governance,” the conference brings together researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, practitioners and students to showcase research, exchange ideas and foster interdisciplinary collaboration in support of Kenya Vision 2030, the African Union Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Exploring Visual Cultures
Among the conference’s fifteen sub-themes, Open Knowledge, Inclusion and Cultural Heritage Preservation offers a timely platform for scholars working at the intersection of design, the visual arts and heritage. This strand invites contributions that examine how African visual cultures, museum collections, archives and creative practice are being reimagined in the digital age. It welcomes work on decolonial approaches to heritage and museum practice, digital documentation and access, community memory, and the role of design and visual storytelling in preserving and communicating cultural knowledge for future generations.
Researchers, practitioners and students engaged in visual culture, heritage and design scholarship are encouraged to submit abstracts under this and the conference’s other sub-themes, and to join the conversation on building integrated, inclusive knowledge ecosystems for the future.
