The work attempts to bridge the gap between collective remembering and intimate family history. It evolved after a visit to Silute, Lithuania, where my grandmother was born, and fled from during the second world war, by walking the distance of 1200km to Düsseldorf, Germany. The work tries to reach into the parts of my family I don’t know about, especially the character of my great-grandmother, whom I have never met and who never talked about her past. At the same time it tries to fill in the blanks about their connection to historic events during the second world war. It lingers around questions of identity and belonging, as well as the „unspoken“ in a family and the responsibility to remember.
