Young EVC is an online exchange between students from Southafrica and Germany.
For a first meeting Obakeng Kgongoane and Deneesher Pather invited a group of students from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich to an online event of their Visual Culture Club at the University of Pretoria on February 29, 2024. After a first round of introduction, the film "The Stuart Hall Project" by John Akomfrah (Link) was screened and discussed.
On April 5 the South-African artist Cazlynne Peffer gave an artist talk about her autobiographical work. Peffer presented her research on the representation of sexual violence in art and described her own artistic process. In her installations she substitutes the victim’s body with objects. After the presentation, the students could ask questions and gave Cazlynne feedback on how inspiring they find her artistic approach.
In the next meeting on April 19 the German artist Verena Hägler will present her work. Again there will be an exchange of ideas after the artist talk.
