In 2023, a German delegation attended the (A) Gender Matters conference in Pretoria, including Nicola Pauli, Christian Römmelt and Ernst Wagner. On this occasion, the group also had the opportunity to discover the famous Imbali Artbooks, 'Adventuring Into Art' (link). Impressed, even enthusiastic, about this book series, personal contact was finally established with the director, Justine Watterson, in 2025. It quickly became clear how much both sides had in common: a shared interest in providing art teachers in South Africa and Germany with good materials.

That was the start of the Imbali-Weingarten Project. Fascinated by the idea of opening up different perspectives from Africa and Europe through transnational cooperation, a small working group was established, supplemented by Ruth Sack in South Africa and Mina Ton & Gwendolin Lübbecke in Germany. This group is currently working on a prototype on the topic of migration, not only to test cooperation, but also to find a meaningful form for the manuals for art teachers. The results will be published on the EVC website.
