On November 10, the members of the Expert Panel met for another meeting to present ongoing projects of the partners, as well as to discuss possible joint activities.

  • Dr. Paul Assako Assako organized an exhibition on “Collective Memory – National Memory” in Douala / Cameroon, see: https://www.explore-vc.org/en/activities/archive/may-9-2020-exhibition-collective-memory-national-memory-douala-cameroon.html
    This approach is discussed as groundbreaking, leading to the idea for a joint exhibition by students on this topic in 2021. A working group (Dr. Avi Sooful, Dr. Osuanyi Essel, and Dr. Ebenezer Acquah) will develop a proposal for the next meeting.
  • The publication of the book “Visual Cultures of Africa” is making good progress (nearly 40 accepted abstracts). It is suggested to hold a webinar for interested authors.
  • Dr. Osuanyi Essel and Dr. Ebenezer Acquah give information about a virtual exhibition in Munich (Museum Fuenf Kontinente) planned for early 2021.
  • Dr. Ebenezer Acquah informs about the new logo of EVC, designed by one of his students, Deborah Akuomey-Doussey. An explanation of this logo will be published on the website.
  • Dr. Bernadette van Haute informs about the plan for a book about “Methods of Interpreting Visual Objects”.
  • Dr. Bea Lundt informs about the book “Gender in Visual Cultures Africa-Europe”.
  • Dr. Ernst Wagner informs about recent changes regarding the website (new entries, filters, interactivity) as well as the ideas to participate in the mediation program of documenta fifteen in 2022.
