Since 2019, eight art teachers from Bavaria/Germany are rethinking art education in a globalized world in order to implement new methods and innovative content in teaching. The State Institute for School Quality and Educational Research in Munich serves as institutional base for this endeavor. Since March 2020, due to the restrictions related to the Corona crisis, nearly every Wednesday night the group is meeting online to discuss topics like:

  • How can the practice of art teaching adapt to today’s challenges?
  • How can we address ‘cultural appropriation’ in teaching?
  • How can we include gender issues into postcolonial art education?
  • How do we deal with the existing Eurocentric bias in German text books?
  • Which models for transnational exchange on cultural heritage?

The working group is preparing a manual to help colleagues to experiment with new contents and methods in art lessons. The manual will be published in 2020.
