Dear colleagues,
Today, we would like to draw your attention to two very special opportunities. | |
Firstly, a call for proposals is open for an unusual and innovative art project for female artists, culminating in an exhibition. The project, which focuses on textile art, was initiated at the UEW in Ghana and aims to foster new networks. Titled "Stitched Feminine Voices: Project 2026," this initiative invites young women art students and creators studying at institutions affiliated with an Exploring Visual Cultures (EVC) member to apply. Selected participants will receive mentorship and critical engagement to develop original fibre-based works exploring themes of sustainability, agency, and history through materials such as cloth and thread. Artworks, along with an artist statement and a short biography, must be submitted to adzesua2026@gmail.com by August 21, 2026, for inclusion in a fully illustrated catalogue and an online virtual exhibition featured on the EVC and UEW websites. There is also an exciting workshop presenting an artistic approach bridging Asia and Africa, as well as analogue and digital media. Hosted by Ebenezer Kow Abraham during his Independent Studies in Drawing class on Tuesday, 21st July 2026, this two-hour virtual session features Ayuko Onoue, a Munich-based Japanese WebAR engineer and traditional papercut (kirie) artist. The event opens at 09:15 AM GMT (with the main presentation beginning at 09:30 AM GMT) and includes a 45-minute talk by Ayuko tracing her creative journey of converting analogue papercuts into immersive augmented reality environments. This will be followed by a 10-minute participant Q&A, leading into a 20-minute hands-on studio workshop in which attendees will use drawing paper and coloured pencils or markers to design their own symbolic "eggs" based on the Sankofa metaphor, sharing their concepts live for direct feedback. Kind regards,
Ebenezer Kow Abraham, UEW Ghana EVC Secretary
