The provenance research project at the Museum Fünf Kontinente Munich is going to present its results.

The provenance research project „The ´Blue Rider Post´ and the Max von Stetten Collection (1893 – 1896) from Cameroon in the Museum Fünf Kontinente Munich" started on November 1rst, 2019 and is granted for 12 months. It is funded by the German Lost Art Foundation and  the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts. The research project is considered particularly urgent due to the positions held by Max von Stetten (1860 – 1925) in Cameroon. He was head of the police force and commander of the „Protection Corps“, when Cameroon was a German colony 1911 - 1916. The aim of the project is to conduct detailed research on each of the 200 objects he gave to the museum, and the circumstances of their acquisition - in collaboration with scholars from Cameroon and the presumed source communities. At the same time oral history of the source communities will be recorded, to gain a shared narrative about this period of German-Cameroonian history.
